Prayers for the Order and its members
The Druids of Albion Prayer
This prayer converted by Geoff Boswell is highly adaptable for many circumstances as you will see below:
Divine Father, Holiest Mother, Flowing Spirit (1)
Be with us/me all this day (2)
In your abiding Light strengthen us to want to work your will.
Let loves way be worked in us/me,
Whenever, wherever, however your illumination is to be served,There let us/me be...
(1) An altternative opening address could be: 'Divine Brother, Most Sacred Sister, Flowing Awen' or for Christians the Trinity may be addressed.
(2) Any noun describing a time or event can be used: night, morning, afternoon, evening; ceremony, ritual, meeting, etc., and of course singular or plural, for personal or group use.
The Oath of Peace
We swear by peace and love to stand
Heart to heart and hand to hand,
Mark, oh Spirit, and hear us now,
Confirming this our sacred vow.
The Druids Prayer Druids of Albion version (as rewritten by Chris Turner):
Eternal Spirit of Light, grant us protection;
And in that protection, security;
And in that security, knowledge;
And in that knowledge, awareness;
And in that awareness, the awareness of the rightness of things;
And in that awareness, the love of it;
And through that love, to come to the love of all Creation;
And in the love of all Creation, the love of the Divine Spirit
And all Goodness, Beauty and Truth.
Universal version (as cited in The Book of Druidry by Ross Nichols):
Grant us, oh God, thy protection,
And in protection, strength.
And in strength, understanding
And in understanding, knowledge,
And in knowledge, the knowledge of justice,
And in the knowledge of justice, the love of it,
And in the love of it, the love of all existences,
And in the love of all existences, the love of God,
God and all goodness.
For Peace
For peace in your country
For the victims of violence everywhere
For those struggling for peace and justice
For workers in conflict situations
For a world without war and violence...
Lead me from death to life,
From falsehood to truth,
Lead me from despair to hope,
From fear to trust.
Lead me from hate to love,
From war to peace,
Let peace fill our beings,
Our world and our universe.
Druids of Albion Breastplate
The sun as One Light,
Illumine and guide me,
The moon as a shield,
Protect and overshadow me,
Light beside me, on my left and on my right.
This day be inside and outside of me,
Lowly and meek yet invincible,
Be in the hearts of those whom I meet,
And in the mouths of those who speak to me,
This day be inside and outside of me,
Lowly and meek yet invincible,
Sun as One Light - moon as a shield,
Light beside me, on my left and on my right.
Albion Liturgy
We have adapted a Morning and Evening Prayer form. These two sets of liturgy, which we call the Albion Liturgy, have been adapted for use by the Druids of Albion from Jonathan Robinsons excellent ‘Grail Liturgy’ which was an Anglican – Indian – Celtic hybrid itself. They have been developed in keeping with the originals as ceremonies or rituals to be performed, if a Druid wished, in the morning and evening. We have taken this step after requests for such ritual from Christian Druids and Druids who lean to Celtic Spirituality or Christianity.
A druids prayer at ancient places (Chris Turner)
You who made these ancient monuments,
You who raised these ancient stones,
We acknowledge you
We honour you
We respect you.
Your names are lost
Your faces are forgotten
Your bones are scattered,
But Spirit calls to Spirit
From your unimaginable future
To our unfathomable past.
See us in the visions of your young people
And in the fireside dreams of your old folk.
Know we are here
And know we walk with you in the far fields.
Blessings of the Spirit to you
Peace of the Spirit to you
Joy of the Spirit to you
From place to place and time to time
In the One Eternal Light.
When working at a site (the Custard Factory, Birmingham) which was not, by definition ancient, Geoff Boswell used the following variant prayer: A druids prayer at modern places (A variation on the above prayer) You who made these modern monuments,
You who raised these modern stones,
We acknowledge you,
We honour you,
We respect you. When your names are lost,
When your faces are forgotten,
When your bones are scattered,
Then Spirit will still call to Spirit,
From your unimaginable future,
To our unfathomable past. See us in the visions of your young people,
And in the fireside dreams of your old folk.
Know we are here,
And know we walk with you in the far fields. Blessings of the Spirit to you,Peace of the Spirit to you,Joy of the Spirit to you,From place to place and time to time,In the One Eternal Light.
